Service in the
United States Air Force

Lt Col Avishek Kumar, MD — Senior Flight Surgeon

For more than 15 years, Lt Col Avishek Kumar has served in the United States Air Force Reserve as a Senior Flight Surgeon, supporting pilots, aircrew, and operational personnel in high-performance environments where clarity, resilience, and decisive medical judgment are essential.

His military service has included aerospace medicine, operational support, and care for service members across a wide range of aviation settings. Having flown aboard and supported missions involving the F-16, F-15, T-38, HH-60 Black Hawk, and C-130, Dr. Kumar brings firsthand perspective on the physiologic, cognitive, and operational demands faced by military aircrew.

His service has also included humanitarian missions to Guam and El Salvador, where medicine, mission, and service come together in support of vulnerable communities.

Earlier in his training, he was selected for a clinical rotation at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center, further deepening his interest in aerospace medicine, human performance, and the limits of human capability in extreme operational settings.

That experience continues to inform his broader approach to medicine: preparation without complacency, calm under pressure, and an enduring commitment to serving others in consequential moments.

The Bridge

Military aviation tolerates no hesitation. Decisions must be precise. Performance must be protected.

That same philosophy guides Dr. Kumar’s approach to medicine — disciplined, mission-focused, and centered on preserving strength, independence, and long-term quality of life.

Whether in the cockpit or the clinic, the objective remains the same: protect performance, preserve resilience, and execute with precision.
